Your inner experiences don’t all come from the same source.
Some of them come from your conscious awareness but others come from unconscious parts of your mind —feelings, thoughts, and needs that aren’t yet accessible to your awareness.
Before they’re made conscious they manifest as symptoms—depressed moods, anxious feelings, anger, fear, confusion, frustration, etc..
To figure out what’s happening make some space between you and your thoughts, feelings, and reactions. Contemplate, observe, and study them—especially the painful ones.
Try this: Choose something that’s bothering you, close your eyes, and ask yourself, "Who’s thinking this? or Who’s feeling this?” or Who’s reacting?
In other words, which part of you is thinking, feeling, or reacting?
Is it your mother or father? Your inner child? A part of you that’s been mistreated in the world? A part that feels unseen / unheard?
Maybe it’s a part that feels judged or rejected? Or a part that feels oppressed and wants to go free?
Is it a belief of your culture or society talking? Is it your inner rebel? Or wise woman, or warrior? It can be anything...
You might not be able to answer the question right away, and that’s okay, but with some patience, imagination, and intuition you’ll be able to identify it.
Once you have a sense of which part you’re dealing with imagine further into the story behind it.
This will raise your awareness and give you more choice in your thoughts, feelings, and reactions.
